In Memory Of

Fr. Leo John Dehon was not merely a priest; he was a trailblazer of hope and inspiration. His visionary leadership encouraged us to embrace a life of service, reflecting his unyielding dedication to spreading love and kindness.

Originally from Germany Fr. Alfons served as the parish priest in Bethulie for more than 40 years.

Departed: 23 July 2003 

The South African member of our province died after long illness while being the parish priest in Bethulie.

Fr. Innocent, a Zimbabwean, he died seven months after his priestly ordination.

Originally from Holland, until his passing the oldest member of our Province. After many years of ministry he had lived in retirement in the Aliwal Monastery.

Born: 26 September 1925
Departed: 12 July 2007 

Originally from Belgium, he worked as missionary for several years in Congo, then in South Africa. As the member of South African Province he served prisoners for many years, and was the engine of SHAL (Sacred Heart Auto League).

Bishop Everard Baaij, SCJ

Born: 24 March 1921
Departed: 31 January 2012 

Originally from Netherlands, he first served as a parish priest in various communities in the Diocese of De Aar. Later he was ordained and appointed as a bishop of the Diocese of Aliwal North. After his retirement, he moved to Port Elizabeth where he lived in the Nazareth House and continued his ministry to the sick and the elderly.

Originally from Germany Br. Bona helped with the construction of many churches in the Aliwal Diocese as well as the carpentry teaching in St. Joseph School.

Born: 14 March 1932
Departed: 29 September 2017 

Fr. Anthony, a South African, with the talent for the local languages worked for many years as the parish priest in Dordrecht. He retired in the Monastery, Aliwal North.

Departed: 31 August 2020 

Originally from Germany Fr. Benno served as the regoinal superior and the bursar for the SCJs. He retired from his pastoral involvement at Hilton parish and then served the Holy Cross Sisters and the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, all stationed in Aliwal North.

Born: 12 November 1942
Departed: 24 March 2022 

Originally from Germany Fr. Karl-Heinz worked as the parish priest in the Cathedral of Aliwal for 15 years. He also served as the provincial councilor and the provincial bursar. He retired in the Aliwal North Monastery.

Born: 06 December 1935
Departed: 02 November 2024 

Originally from the United States Fr. John has served as the parish priest in many parishes in the De Aar Diocese. He was very active in the field of social development and the eradication of poverty. In year 2012 he retired in the Monastery, Aliwal North.
