The history of the Priests of the Sacred Heart (SCJ) is enriched by the lives of men who embraced the spirituality of the Sacred Heart with extraordinary faithfulness. Inspired by the charism of Father Leo John Dehon, they dedicated their lives to God through prayer, service, sacrifice, and love for others.

The Church recognizes some of these faithful disciples as Venerables and Blesseds, acknowledging the holiness of their lives and their witness to the Gospel. Their journey reminds us that sanctity is not reserved for a few, but is the vocation of every Christian.

As members of the Dehonian Family, we give thanks for these examples of holiness and ask for their intercession as we strive to become "Prophets of Love and Servants of Reconciliation" in today's world.

What Does "On the Path to Sainthood" Mean?

The Catholic Church carefully examines the lives of those believed to have lived heroic virtue. The process generally follows four stages:

Servant of God

A title given when a formal cause for canonization is opened and the person's life begins to be officially investigated.

Venerable

A title granted when the Church recognizes that the person lived a life of heroic virtue.

Blessed

A title given after the recognition of a miracle attributed to the person's intercession (except in cases of martyrdom). The person may then be publicly venerated in certain places or communities.

Saint

After a second approved miracle, the person may be canonized and proposed to the universal Church as a model of Christian holiness.

Dehonian Witnesses of Holiness

Throughout the world, members of the Congregation and the wider Dehonian Family have left a remarkable legacy of faith, charity, and devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Their lives continue to inspire countless people and bear witness to the transforming power of God's love.

These holy men and women remind us that the spirituality of the Sacred Heart is lived not only in prayer but also in service, compassion, justice, reconciliation, and missionary zeal.
